~~~~~~~~~~~
"Puff, a 5-song EP, was released in June ‘17 to resounding critical acclaim from Pitchfork, NPR, Zane Lowe, and The Fader. Stereogum and Exclaim named the release as one of the 'Best EPs of 2017. Puff was produced by Grammy Award-winner Shawn
Everett (Alabama Shakes, Lucius) and Matt Smith (Owen Pallett). The release was supported on tours with Charlotte Day Wilson and The Weather Station.
Continuing their enigmatic exploration of pop, jazz, and R&B, Bernice's new album "Puff: In the air without a shape" attempted to mimic the playful intimacy of the band’s live show. The album was called “a monument to ephemerality” by the New York Times and received a long-list nomination for the prestigious Polaris Music Prize."
Furniture Party, Hannah Rose, Mulligan, Heroes Of Canton @ Copper Owl Feb 7 2019 - Jan 22nd @ Copper Owl
2100
$10 at the door only.
On February 7th, the Copper Owl will be hosting four fantastic local bands. Admission will be 10$ at the door and doors will open at 9:00 pm. Taking the stage will be Hannah Rose, Mulligan, Heroes Of Canton and Furniture Party.
This event is 19+
Hannah Rose
"Stunning musician with an energy that is contagious and a hint of sass that is always on point! Don't miss the sweet sweet melodies coming from this one people!!"
-Kady Savard
Hannah Rose will be sure to get you singing along with captivating melodies and lyrics from her collection of original folk songs! Her music is the perfect way to relax after a long day before getting ready to go at it again when the next band turns up the heat.
Mulligan
Mulligan is a four piece band hailing from Victoria, BC. Delving in genres such as grunge, punk, metal, and melodic hard-rock, Mulligan has come to be well-known for their high-energy, crowd-inclusive performances. Rather than focus on getting every note right and every beat precise, Mulligan abides by the philosophy that as long as it's entertaining, and fun, and driven by raw emotion, any band's music is worth paying attention to.
Heroes Of Canton
This semi-political, rowdy punk-rock trio delivers a strong and encouraging message for people everywhere! From the raw sounds of punk, to the soothing and enlightening sounds of reggae, Heroes Of Canton always has the crowd moving.
Furniture Party
"A decent band, I guess."
-Ben Boyd, former Furniture Party bassist
What exactly is a Furniture Party? Honestly, no one knows, but what we do know is that Furniture Party is an exciting rock band that is sure to grab your attention. Featuring the talent of five different members, you can expect to see an immense variety in their set. From pop-punk to Latin rock, and blues rock to saloon jams, Furniture Party is by all accounts a band.
LSB - Footnotes | soul:r | Spearhead - London
https://soundcloud.com/lukelsb
https://www.facebook.com/LukeLSB/
LSB’s first forays into Drum & Bass came in the early 2000’s as the co-promoter of the hugely successful ‘Bounce’ nights in Norwich. Cutting his teeth behind the decks as one of the resident DJ’s, he had already turned his hand to production by the time the team behind Bounce called it a day in 2007. His first productions surfaced on the now defunct imprints Bingo Beats (run by the legendary DJ Zinc) & Deep Soul Music in 2007-08. After a small hiatus spent honing his craft, he returned with fresh music in 2011 and his stock has been rising ever since.
‘All Of My Love’ / ‘Rolling Sideways’, released on BCee’s Spearhead Records, was the first of this new wave of productions and exhibited his new prowess in the studio and a more expressive, melodic sound that quickly became his trademark. Further releases on Spearhead quickly followed in the shape of the ‘Overthinking EP’, ‘The Hurting’ and more, as well as making a choice appearance on Artificial Intelligence’s Integral label with the hugely popular ‘Rotary Motion’ / ‘Serendipity’ 12” in collaboration with Technicolour & Komatic (now Technimatic of Shogun Audio).
By now, his blend of soulful musicality with dancefloor weight had won him a myriad of fans across the globe. Gigging across the UK and Europe to captivated audiences in 2014, he still found the time to remix ‘Serendipity’ for Integral, drop ‘XLRS’ on Shogun Audio as part of their 10 year compilation album as well as feature on Tokyo Prose’s hugely popular ‘Presence’ LP. A remix of London Elektricity’s ‘Vapour Trails’ followed as part of the Hospitality 2015 album before he featured on the sophomore DRS album ‘Mid Mic Crisis’.
‘The View’ was the stand-out track from a stand-out album, with his delicate instrumentation & arrangement perfectly complimenting Tyler Daley’s haunting vocals and DRS’ insightful lyricism. Having already impressed Soul:r boss Marcus Intalex with his music, a solo EP for the label came in the shape of volume 3 of the popular ‘Four:Fit’ series. The EP’s 4 tracks found their way into the sets of countless A-List Dj’s and showed a diversity in style, approach and a confidence gained from the ease with which his music fitted into the discography of one of the most respected labels in D&B.
Now working on follow up projects for Soul:r, producing remixes for some of the biggest labels in bass music, in addition to playing an ever expanding number of DJ dates across the world, the man simply known as Beavon to his friends is assured of his status as one of the brightest up & coming talents in Drum & Bass.
--------------------------------------
DRS - Space Cadet | soul:r | Signature - Manchester
https://soundcloud.com/mcdrs
https://www.facebook.com/Delrokski/
As a solo artist DRS is two albums, an EP and countless features into his trajectory. His music is the sound of an artist becoming a master of his domain, a weary look at life underpinned by honesty and great writing.
As a creative he works across different disciplines: music, film and art.
His success as an artist boils down to his refusal to speak on anything other than his truths, something that listeners can identify with, this is highlighted by three award wins at the Drum & Bass awards: Best MC, Best Vocalist and he featured on the Still Standing Remix which was awarded best remix. He is the go-to host for some of the finest that electronic music has to offer, from Calibre to Toddla T.
2017 is about furthering the message via two new outlets; Summit and The Awkward Music Group, stay tuned for more news on both of those soon.
Sat. February 9th  Vibrate w/ Nathan Jonson, Big Body , Jesse Campbell
Vibrate w/: Nathan Jonson, Big Body , Jesse Campbell @ Copper Owl Feb 9 2019 - Jan 22nd @ Copper Owl
2200 - 0200
$10 at the door only.
VIBRATE at Copper Owl
We're very excited to have our first guest Nathan Jonson joining the Vibrate crew at Copper Owl for a night of quirky techno, spicy electro and whatever the heck else we feel like playing. VIBRATE aims to create a comfortable and safe space to enjoy electronic music, a place to share new music and explore new sounds, and a chance for up and coming DJs to rinse their tunes. All are welcome.
Tickets -- $10 at the door
Our lineup:
Nathan Jonson
(Wagon Repair / 2020 vision / Rinse Recordings)
https://soundcloud.com/nathanjonson
Following a decade of producing and DJing as Hrdvsion, Nathan Jonson steps out under his birth name to mark a new stage in his career.
When you have explored as many styles as Hrdvsion did - everything from beatless, ambient tracks to rugged club cuts or pop bootlegs - there isn’t so much new ground to break. The switch of alias isn’t about doing something different but just about being open, honest and direct.
That said, with time Jonson’s need to challenge the norm has eased and his boundlessly experimental streak has become more focused. His impressive discography, spread across labels such as Wagon Repair, Balkan Recordings, Rinse and International Deejay Gigolo, hints at a producer who has valued diversity above all. His records have long been turned to by DJs right across the board, always guaranteeing them a striking and unusual sound. Now, without the pressure to surprise and re-invent, Jonson can go deeper into his craft and pinpoint what it is that linked his output over the years.
Big Body
https://soundcloud.com/thatbigbody
Big Body is a long time Victoria DJ spinning house, techno, electro, 140, 160, you name it. Evolving from the feistier days of electro bangers, Big Body's sound has matured into a more European take on techno and house. Constantly digging through new music, Ian's most excited to use VIBRATE as a venue to share his newest tunes and turn them up loud.
Jesse Campbell
Jesse is making his debut at VIBRATE. One half of Victoria's Voyages.fm, Jesse's driven by a tribal, melodic and psychedelic sound. We can't wait to hear what he's got.
